Pediatric Nursing Simulation Laboratory
The Pediatric Simulation Laboratory provides a specialized environment for developing nursing competencies related to the care of infants, children, and adolescents. Pediatric nursing requires specialized knowledge and skills because children's physiological responses, developmental needs, communication requirements, and medication considerations differ from those of adults. The laboratory therefore provides students with opportunities to practice pediatric care in a realistic and developmentally appropriate environment.
The laboratory supports learning activities including:
- Pediatric health assessment.
- Developmental assessment.
- Assessment of infants and children.
- Pediatric vital signs and pain assessment.
- Medication calculation and administration for children.
- Weight-based medication safety.
- Pediatric respiratory assessment and management.
- Management of pediatric emergencies.
- Recognition of deterioration in children.
- Fluid and electrolyte management.
- Fever and infection management.
- Pediatric resuscitation.
- Safe communication with children and their families.
- Family-centered nursing care.
- Patient and caregiver education.
- Management of children with acute and chronic conditions.
- Psychological and emotional support for children and families.
Simulation scenarios allow students to practice responding to pediatric emergencies while developing clinical judgment, communication, teamwork, patient safety awareness, and family-centered care competencies.
