Maternity and Newborn Simulation Laboratory

The Maternity and Newborn Simulation Laboratory is a specialized environment designed to develop students' competencies in maternal, obstetric, and newborn nursing care. The laboratory provides opportunities for students to practice care across the antenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn periods. Simulation scenarios can range from normal pregnancy and childbirth to complex maternal and neonatal emergencies.

Learning activities include:

  • Antenatal assessment and monitoring.
  • Maternal vital signs and physical assessment.
  • Fetal assessment and monitoring.
  • Assessment of labor progression.
  • Care during the first, second, third, and fourth stages of labor.
  • Assistance with normal vaginal delivery.
  • Immediate postpartum assessment.
  • Recognition and management of maternal complications.
  • Newborn assessment and adaptation after birth.
  • Apgar assessment.
  • Immediate newborn care.
  • Breastfeeding support and education.
  • Neonatal resuscitation.
  • Recognition of neonatal deterioration.
  • Maternal-newborn bonding and family-centered care.
  • Patient and family education.
  • Communication during obstetric emergencies.
  • Interprofessional teamwork during maternity emergencies.

Through realistic simulation scenarios, students develop the ability to recognize maternal and fetal risks, prioritize interventions, communicate effectively, and respond appropriately to rapidly changing clinical situations.
